When your vehicle is declared a total loss by your insurance company, particularly in the wake of a car accident or a stolen vehicle incident, it can be a stressful and confusing time. This declaration typically means that the cost of repairs could equal or even exceed your vehicle’s retail market value. In such scenarios, Leverage Auto Appraisals steps in as your ally, ensuring that you receive the full retail value of your car, encompassing all applicable Tax, Title, and Licensing Fees, a right strongly upheld in Oregon.

If you find yourself with an offer from your insurance company that seems unfairly low, remember that you are not without recourse. Our professional services in Portland, set against the backdrop of iconic local landmarks like the Portland Japanese Garden and the bustling Pearl District, provide a sense of familiarity and trust for our clients.

Leverage Auto Appraisals is here to assist. We’re not affiliated with any insurance companies, meaning our sole focus is on securing a fair settlement for you. Our expertise is particularly crucial in Oregon, where law mandates 100% reimbursement for appraisal costs if we manage to increase the value over the insurance company’s last offer by even a single cent.

Our Oregon Certified Vehicle Appraiser, Ken Nix (Certification #V34-075), specializes in providing car appraisals for a range of situations including Totaled vehicle Insurance claims, Total Loss Appraisal Clause Disputes, and negotiation for stolen or totaled Trucks and Cars. We have noticed a trend with CCC ONE, Mitchell, and JD Powers valuations, particularly for Diesel Trucks with the 7.3, Duramax, or Cummins engines, coming in at values as low as 30 percent of their true market value. This is where the appraisal clause in your policy becomes crucial, allowing you to challenge these lowball valuations effectively.

Don’t let an unfair offer set you back. If you’re in Portland, Oregon, and need assistance with a total loss claim, Leverage Auto Appraisals is your first step towards a fair settlement. Contact us now for a free Claim Review at (503) 567-8900. We are here to ensure that your car value or vehicle value reflects its true worth in the market, irrespective of the situation – be it a car accident, Copart, IAAI involvements, or other circumstances leading to your vehicle being totaled.

Our all-inclusive auto appraisal service provides everything you need to determine the cash value of your vehicle. With us you can have peace of mind and confidence in your claim. Other companies may claim to be the best auto appraisers in the Pacific Northwest, but we don’t work for insurance companies like they do. Haven’t you already dealt with enough misdirection and manipulation from your insurance company?

  1. Is there an auto appraiser near me? I cover all of Oregon, specializing in helping consumers with Oregon total loss insurance claims as an Oregon Certified Auto Appraiser since 2010.
  2. Oregon Total Loss Laws. The big secret your claims rep doesn’t want you to know is if your Oregon Certified Auto Appraiser increases your claim just one cent, yes, ONE PENNY, your insurance company has to reimburse you for the cost of the total loss appraisal.
  3. How can I negotiate with car insurance adjusters for my car’s total loss. YOU DON’T HAVE TO. Under your policy’s appraisal clause, you’re allowed to hire a vehicle appraiser and he can negotiate the claim for you.
  4. How much more can I get? My average increase this year, is $5,768.19 or 44.78 percent of the vehicle’s value. .
  5. When’s the best time to invoke my appraisal clause? The sooner the better. Ken has over a decade of experience working appraisal clause claims. Many insurance companies are known to give claimants a list of things to do if they want a higher value. Most of the times, this is just a ploy to get you to waste time while your vehicle goes down in value, so they can gain an even bigger advantage.

We Can Help! We specialize in Oregon Total loss Insurance claim disputes. If your vehicle has been declared a total loss and your insurance company is not providing a fair offer, and you need help, we can provide… LEVERAGE to get the value you should be receiving. Don’t go it alone, our Oregon Licensed Auto Appraiser, Ken Nix, can help you recover your full value by producing an appraisal under the appraisal clause of your insurance policy and negotiations with your insurance company.

I meant to do this a couple months ago, but if you ever are looking to invoke the appraisal clause with your insurance definitely get ahold of Ken!! He got me close to $4K more than what insurance was wanting me to accept. I will say be patient (I was not good at this), communication can be sparse, but he is very busy and has reasons. Thank you Ken!!
Response from the owner:Thank you so much for taking the time to come back and write this review, I really appreciate it. It was truly awesome working with you, even if the patience part was a little tough at times. Totally understandable, these total loss situations can be stressful and nobody likes waiting when they are dealing with an insurance claim. I am really glad we were able to help you through the appraisal clause process and secure nearly $4,000 more than the original offer. That is exactly why having an independent auto appraiser in Oregon can make such a big difference when dealing with a total loss valuation dispute. Insurance companies do not always reflect the true market value, and I am happy we were able to challenge that and get you a better outcome. Thank you again for your trust, your patience, and your kind words. It really means a lot, and I am always here if you ever need help again. Kind regards, Ken

Ken Nix was an absolute joy to work with and he did exactly what he said he would. He was able to get my payout increased enough to pay off my loan, buy back my car, and have some left over to repair it too! He even reassured me when insurance's third party appraiser tried to scare me into thinking I had made a big mistake. Hiring Ken was the best decision I could have made and I am 100% satisfied with the outcome. I could not recommend him more. Thank you so much Ken!
Response from the owner:Ashley, thank you so much for the wonderful review. It was truly a pleasure working with you, and I am so glad we were able to increase the value of your **2015 Honda CR-V** by more than **$2,700**, a **43.8 percent increase** over the original offer. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for insurance company representatives or the appraisers they hire to say things that make policyholders question whether they are making the right decision. I am glad I was able to answer your questions and give you the confidence to stay the course. In the end, being able to pay off your loan, buy your CR-V back, and still have money left over to repair it worked out. That is exactly why I enjoy doing this work. Thank you again for your trust and your kind words. You were an absolute pleasure to work with, and I truly appreciate your recommendation. I wish you many more miles with your CR-V, and if you ever need anything in the future, do not hesitate to reach out. Kind regards, Ken

Ken Nix does an awesome job, great communication, great guy. He has negotiated with insurance values on two vehicles for me now. Wouldn't go to anyone else. He got me 4-5k more both times, dont let insurance lowball your cars value. Reminder: Oregon law requires insurance to reimburse your costs for an appraisal for just a penny in raised value and he will get it for you, so don't hesitate.
Response from the owner:Caleb, thank you so much for the awesome review, I truly appreciate it. And I have to say, it has been great working with you not just once, but twice now. That really means a lot to me. Of course, I always say I hope you never need me again because that usually means something went wrong, but if you do, I will always be here to help. My goal is always the same, to make sure you get what you should be getting and not some lowball valuation that the insurance company tries to put in front of you. I also want to personally thank you for the referrals. I have definitely had several people mention your name over the past few months, and that means more than you know. That kind of trust and support is everything in this business. Thank you again for everything, and I hope you have a blessed day. Kind regards, Ken

I had a somewhat rare version of a vehicle that was stolen. Insurance decided to compare it to a much more common and cheaper version and refused to budge. Luckily I found Leverage. Not only did Leverage get my insurance to compare to a like version, which almost doubled what I received, but they got me almost 50% more than the revised value. If your insurance is being stubborn with you talk to Leverage.
Response from the owner:Thank you so much for the great review and for trusting me with your claim. Cases involving rare or uncommon vehicles, especially trucks, can be some of the most challenging because insurance companies often try to compare them to more common, lower value models that simply are not the same. Condition and History are very important when it comes to rare or collectible vehicles. It can make the difference of that vehicle being a collectible, or just a generic car or truck. I was really happy we were able to get the valuation based on the correct version of your truck first, and then continue negotiating to increase the settlement even further. That is exactly why I never take the path of least resistance. If I believe the evidence supports a higher value, I'm going to do everything in my power to get that amount. Every vehicle deserves to be compared to what it actually is, not to a less valuable version that happens to be easier to find. Thank you again for your recommendation. Reviews like yours help others realize they do not have to accept an unfair valuation just because the insurance company says it is correct. It was a pleasure working with you, and I truly appreciate the opportunity to help. Kind regards, Ken

I was happy to get a fair settlement with my insurance company.
Response from the owner:Ian, thank you for taking the time to leave a review, I really appreciate it. I am glad we were able to get you to a fair settlement, that is always the goal. I always tell people, choosing the right appraiser matters. There are a lot of auto appraisers out there doing all kinds of work, divorce, probate, classic cars, you name it. But total loss claims are their own animal. It is kind of like needing open heart surgery and being given three choices, a dentist, a chiropractor like Alan on Two and a Half Men, or a heart specialist. I mean… you are probably not picking Alan. Ha ha. I am really glad you trusted me with your claim and that we were able to get things where they should have been. Thank you again, and I am always here if you ever need help down the road. Kind regards, Ken

I was greatly impressed with Ken at his company. He immediately explain all of details on how it works and how do you insurance company use he gives you the low number? KEN WHEN'S ABLE TO GET ME OVER $9000 MORE THAN YOU INSURANCE COMPANY OFFERED? I WOULD DEFINITELY GIVE A 5 STAR REVIEW. AND WHAT? HIGHLY RECOMMENDED HIM THANK YOU HOWARD BERGMAN.
Response from the owner:Howard, thank you so much for taking the time to write this review, I truly appreciate it. And I really want to emphasize how much your review helps other people. There are so many folks out there dealing with total loss claims who have no idea that they can challenge the insurance company’s valuation. They just accept whatever number is put in front of them, even when it is way off. Reviews like yours show people that this process actually works and that they do not have to accept some stupidly low value that the insurance company is trying to shove down their throat. I am really glad we were able to step in and get you over a $9,000 increase. That is a significant difference, and that is exactly why I am so passionate about what I do. Situations like yours happen every single day, and unfortunately a lot of people never question it. Last year alone I handled 336 claims, and only three of those did not result in at least a $1,000 increase. The odds are very strong when the valuation is off, but there are always variables. I am not a clairvoyant, I do not know who the opposing appraiser will be or how they will approach it. Sometimes we get someone local who understands the Oregon market, and sometimes we get an out of state appraiser who has no clue what vehicles are actually worth here, and those are the ones we really have to fight. In your case, this was a State Farm claim, and I want to be clear, I actually think State Farm is a good company overall. The issue is more with the valuation companies they rely on. CCC valuations in particular tend to come in low, and unfortunately there are not many alternatives out there, some of which are even worse. So while I do not fault State Farm directly, the system they are working within can produce some pretty inaccurate results. Another big issue is the use of so called independent appraisers who are anything but independent. Many of these appraisers are either employees or receive massive amounts of repeat business from the same insurance companies, sometimes millions of dollars worth. It is hard to believe there is no bias there, even if it is subconscious. When your income depends on keeping that relationship, it creates a conflict whether people want to admit it or not. I know this one took a little longer than usual, especially since we had to deal with an out of state appraiser, but I really appreciate your patience and your trust in me throughout the process. I am glad we stuck with it and got you the result you deserved. Thank you again for your kind words and for helping others by sharing your experience. It really does make a difference. Kind regards, Ken

Faced with a total loss from USAA for hail damage they have been trying to undercut me on everything from my vehicles worth to the repairs that would be needed. For those reading this and are suffering from the Insurance companies abuse of power you aren't alone. Mr. Nix, who has been working my case fought and awarded me with 2k extra in my cars evaluation. While not only fighting for me as a client he is very informative and knowledgeable on all kinds of cases. He has helped me understand the situation and going beyond what is required to help make sure things get settled properly. Even with my appraisal being settled he is further helping me fight USAA to do the right thing, for this I am truly grateful to hear a voice that cares. 11/10
Response from the owner:Dat, thank you so much for taking the time to write this, I truly appreciate it. It was great working with you, and I am really glad I could help you push back and get that additional $2,000 on your vehicle. More importantly, I am glad I could help you better understand what was going on and make sure you were not being taken advantage of. I want you to know, I really do try to make myself available as much as possible, not just for my clients, but even for people who are just looking for guidance. Sometimes I get paid, sometimes I do not, and that is okay. I did not get into this for the money, I got into it to help people and to make sure they are treated fairly. There are a lot of moving parts in these claims, whether it is storage fees, rental issues, or insurance companies not providing the right information, and I do my best to step in wherever I can. A lot of people do not realize the time that goes into each case. Even something as simple as a call can take 20 minutes or more by the time I stop what I am doing, pull up the file, review everything, and then have a proper conversation. Multiply that by 20 clients in a day, and it adds up to over six hours just providing updates. At the same time, I am negotiating claims, reviewing valuations, dealing with insurance companies, and sometimes even reaching out to the Division of Financial Regulation when needed. My days usually start around 5 in the morning and go into the evening, because I want to make sure my clients are taken care of. I really appreciate your patience and your trust throughout the process, and I am glad I could continue helping even beyond the appraisal itself. That means a lot to me. Kind regards, Ken

I had a very positive experience with Leverage Auto Appraisals. Ken helped me dispute a total loss claim on my vehicle and I ended up getting a higher payout from my insurance company. The process was smooth, professional, and stress-free from start to finish. He was very responsive, explained everything clearly, and truly went above and beyond to make sure I was treated fairly. I would absolutely recommend Leverage Auto Appraisals to anyone dealing with a total loss or insurance dispute!
Response from the owner:Thank you so much for the kind words, I truly appreciate you taking the time to write this. It was awesome working with you, and I am really glad I could help make the process feel smooth and a little less stressful. That is always my goal, to take something that is usually frustrating and confusing and make it as straightforward as possible while making sure you are treated fairly. These total loss situations can be overwhelming, especially when the insurance company is not coming in where they should, so I am glad we were able to get you a better outcome. Thank you again for your trust and your recommendation. It really means a lot, and I am always here if you ever need help in the future. Kind regards, Ken

Great experience. They were able to negotiate a value that was approximately 50% higher than what the insurance company initially offered. Would use them again, and I strongly recommend them.
Response from the owner:James, thank you so much for the great review and recommendation. I really appreciate you trusting me with your total loss claim. I am glad we were able to increase your settlement by approximately 50 percent over the original offer from your insurance company. Claims like yours are a good reminder that the first offer is not always the final offer. My job is to research the market, build a credible appraisal, and then stand behind that value during negotiations. It is always rewarding when that work results in a settlement that is much closer to what the vehicle is actually worth. Thank you again for your recommendation. It was a pleasure working with you, and I hope you never need my services again. But if you ever do, or if you know someone dealing with a total loss, I will be happy to help. Kind regards, Ken

After my daughter was in an accident in our Mini Countryman, the insurance company low-balled the total-loss payout for our fully insured vehicle. Unfortunately, this seems to be standard practice. We were forced to hire an appraiser to exercise the legally mandated appraisal clause in our policy to recover the disputed value amount. I was fortunate enough to connect with Ken at Leverage Auto Appraisals. Ken has been doing this a long time--he knows where all the bones are buried (as they say), his process is refined, he's personable, friendly and he devotes a lot of attention to his cases. Ken increased the payout I received from the insurance substantially, as expected. It would seem that Ken's purpose in this life is to hold these crooked insurance companies accountable. Kudos Ken. Thank you!!!

Response from the owner:Walt, thank you so much for taking the time to write such an incredible review, I truly appreciate it. And thank you for including the photos, that was a really severe front end collision. Seeing that kind of damage really puts things into perspective, and I am just glad your daughter is okay. Vehicles can be replaced, people cannot. I am really glad we were able to step in and help you through that situation. Unfortunately, what you experienced with the insurance company is all too common. These total loss valuations are often low right out of the gate, and most people do not realize they have the right to challenge them through the appraisal clause. That is where I come in, making sure people are not stuck accepting less than what their vehicle is truly worth. And yeah… I guess you could say I do know where a few of the bones are buried. Ha ha. I have been doing this a long time, and over the years I have built a strong network of dealers and industry contacts. A lot of those relationships go back to when I worked with Reynolds and Reynolds and during my time helping run a large automotive forum network for about 10 years. Even now, I will call a dealer about a comparable and hear someone in the background say, “Is that Ken Nix?” after not talking for 10 or 15 years. It is pretty cool, and those relationships really help when it comes to getting accurate real world market data and holding these valuations accountable. I am grateful you trusted me with your claim, and I am really glad we were able to get you a substantially better outcome. Thank you again for the kind words, they truly mean a lot. Kind regards, Ken

I was recently in a car accident that unfortunately totaled my truck. Thankfully, no one was hurt. I assumed my insurance company would handle everything smoothly, but from the start, I felt like I got the runaround. When they finally gave me a vehicle appraisal, the offer seemed far too low. I explained all the features, add-ons, and the truck’s low mileage, but none of that seemed to matter—they continued to make excuses and stick with a lowball offer. I felt completely stuck until a friend of my wife’s suggested I call Ken Nix. Under our policy, we had the right to get a second appraisal from an independent professional if we disagreed with the insurance company’s valuation. Reaching out to Ken was the best decision we could have made. He was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and truly fought for our family. Thanks to his expertise and persistence, we received a fair payout that reflected the true value of our truck. We are extremely grateful for everything Ken did—his communication, dedication, and skill made the entire process so much easier. It’s reassuring to know there are people like Ken out there who will stand up for you when you need it most. If you’re feeling lost or want a second opinion, I wholeheartedly recommend giving Ken Nix a call. He knows exactly what he’s doing and genuinely cares about helping his clients.
Response from the owner:Louis, thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. First and most importantly, I am very glad no one was hurt. A totaled truck is bad enough, but when the insurance company gives you the runaround and then refuses to recognize the low mileage, features, and added equipment, it can make a stressful situation feel ten times worse. I am grateful your wife’s friend pointed you in my direction, and I am honored you trusted me to help with your total loss appraisal clause claim here in Oregon. I truly do care about my clients and their families. My cousin, Harold Wayne Nix, was an esteemed attorney who passed away last month, and he spent his life fighting for the underdog. He was my role model in that way, and I try to carry that same spirit into every insurance claim car value dispute I handle. Thank you again for trusting Leverage Auto Appraisals. I am so glad we were able to stand up for the true value of your truck and help get your family a fair payout. Kind regards, Ken

I would highly recommend Ken, he greatly exceeded my expectations. And made the process very smooth to deal with the insurance company. He is a rock star! My Porsche Taycan had an accident and got totalled. State Farm offered a payout amount and Ken was able to raise it by $7000. The appreciation would not have been possible without him. I would recommend him in a heartbeat!! He’s easy to work with, very communicative, professional and the best at his game!!
Photo from customer reviewPhoto from customer review
Response from the owner:Thank you so much for the awesome review, I really appreciate it. And I have to say… that Taycan was absolutely gorgeous. I have a red Maserati GranTurismo Sport myself, so I have a soft spot for beautiful cars, especially when they stand out like yours did. Seriously, stunning vehicle. I am really glad I could help make the process smooth for you and get things moving in the right direction with State Farm. A $7000 increase on a total loss claim is exactly why it is so important to challenge those initial valuations. Vehicles like yours are often undervalued, and I am happy we were able to push back and get you closer to the true market value through the appraisal clause process here in Oregon. I truly appreciate your trust, your kind words, and the recommendation. I hope you end up in another red Taycan because that would be a perfect replacement. If you ever need anything in the future, I am always here to help. Kind regards, Ken

Portland Total Loss Vehicle Appraisals

At Leverage Auto Appraisals in Portland, Oregon, we understand the frustration and confusion that can arise when your insurance company undervalues your vehicle after a total loss. Situated in the heart of a city renowned for its rich culture and landmarks like the historic Portland Art Museum, our team is dedicated to ensuring that locals receive fair treatment in their auto insurance claims.

Dealing with a total loss vehicle claim can be a trying experience, especially when the settlement offer from your insurance company doesn’t reflect the true car value or vehicle value. This situation is all too common in Portland, where residents frequently face challenges in getting fair compensation for their totaled car following a car accident or incidents involving Copart or IAAI.

The Appraisal Clause – Your Path to a Fair Offer:

  1. Challenging the Offer: If your insurance company’s valuation falls short, the appraisal clause in your policy is your tool for contesting their offer.
  2. Conducting Independent Appraisals: As part of this process, you have the right to obtain an independent appraisal at your expense, while your insurance company does the same.
  3. Resolving Discrepancies: In cases where these appraisals differ, an umpire is appointed to settle the value dispute, with the costs split between you and the insurer.
  4. Oregon Law Advantage: Under Oregon law, if the final appraised value is higher than your insurer’s last offer, they are obligated to reimburse you for the appraisal costs.

At Leverage Auto Appraisals, we specialize in navigating these complex scenarios. Our team, led by our experienced auto appraiser, Ken Nix, is committed to helping Portland residents stand up to insurance companies that undervalue their vehicles. We provide a comprehensive and free evaluation of your total loss claim, empowering you to make an informed decision on whether to proceed with the dispute.

Our approach is personalized and focused. Unlike larger appraisal firms, each case at Leverage Auto Appraisals receives the detailed attention it deserves. We understand the unique aspects of Portland’s vehicle market, ensuring that your claim reflects the real market value, be it for everyday cars or more specialized vehicles seen in Copart or IAAI auctions.

For Portland residents facing total loss situations, remember that you have a right to fair treatment. Don’t settle for less than what your vehicle is worth. Contact Leverage Auto Appraisals for professional guidance and support in ensuring you receive a fair and just settlement. We stand with you, advocating for your rights, and ensuring that the value of your vehicle is recognized and compensated appropriately.

OREGON LICENSED AUTO APPRAISER for over 13 years

  • Ken has actual long term automotive sales, appraisal and negotiation experience. Beware long term businesses with inexperienced vehicle appraisers claiming decades of experience because a relative founded the business. Make sure your automotive appraiser has the real world experience to back up their claims.
  • Ken’s background in training salespeople on Product Knowledge, combined with auto body repair assessment experience and his computer background provides negotiating leverage over opposing appraisers. The ability to spot bad repairs from prior damage on an opposing appraiser’s comparables to discrediting salt state and flood damaged vehicles used by your insurance company’s valuations from CCC One and Mitchell / J.D. Powers to lowball your vehicle.
  • Expert Negotiator. Personally trained one on one by Zig Ziglar, Tom Stuker, and Grant Cordone. Over 45 years experience as a professional negotiator.
  • Ken’s Automotive, Computer Technology, Legal Reseach, and Negotiating background provides a very specific skill set that makes him a nightmare to opposing appraisers.
